Installing server with existing server archive
When installing a octoplant server with an existing server archive, the octoplant server applications are installed and an existing server archive is included. This type of installation allows you to continue to use existing server archive data. You do not need to create a new server archive. No data will be lost.
Warning
We recommend that the installation with an existing server archive is done with the same octoplant
version with which the server archive was created.
The client applications, required for configuring and managing the octoplant server, must be installed separately. For more details on client applications, see Installing the client applications.
Installation requirements
- The octoplant setup file is available.
- You have a valid license file.
- The user, carrying out the installation, must have administrator rights.
- On the drive that is designated as the storage location for the server archive, file execution must be allowed. Any existing security policies that prevent the execution of files must be disabled.
- If the execution of files is not allowed, an error message (SQLException) will be displayed later when logging on to the system. Login is not possible.
To install the octoplant server with an existing server archive, proceed as follows:
- Select the option Server with existing server archive and then click on Next.

In the next step, you will be asked to create a backup of your server archive or to confirm that you have already created a backup of the server archive. A backup is required because a database migration is performed, during which the server archive may be damaged and data may be lost.
- Specify a path to the directory for the program files of the octoplant server applications.
- You can enter the path manually or click on the Browse… button.

-
We recommend retaining the path suggested by the installation wizard. Example:
- C:Program FilesvdogServer
- The field Path to the client applications: will be displayed. If no client applications are installed, it will not be possible to make an entry in the field.
- Click on Next.
- Specify where the existing server archive is stored:
- Local: The server archive is stored in a local directory.
- Remote: The server archive will be stored in a remote directory.
- Click on Next.
- Specify the path to the existing local server archive and the path to a directory for the client setup files.
- You can enter the paths directly or select the Browse… button.

-
We recommend that you keep the default paths.
- Examples:
- D:vdServerArchiveD:vdServerArchivevdog client setup
- If the server archive has been stored in a remote directory, the user or user account, carrying out the installation, must have read and write rights to the remote system.
- If nooctoplant server archive exists under the given address, an error message will appear. The setup can only be continued if all entries are correct.
- Click on Next.Starting with versiondog version 9.5 a new port is required (TCP port 64023). If you are updating from an older versiondog version, you will see a notice that this port must be enabled. Confirm the notification by entering the required text.1.
-
Windows XP Professional SP3, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2003 are no longer supported. A notification is displayed in the setup for this purpose. This contains a link to a detailed List of options that you have if you have older systems in use. Read the text carefully and, if necessary, confirm it by entering “I understand” in the input field.
-
If you want to make the octoplant Client setup files available on the network, activate the option Create the above network share. The Create network share option is not active by default.
- ![1. Image: Installation wizard, Create network share

](ServerInstall_Setup_User.PNG)
-
The account you specify must have full access to the server archive directory. We recommend you select the Username option and choose an account with administrator rights. The local system account may not have the necessary rights.
- If you choose to use a domain account, the domain must always be specified. Format:
<Domain>
`` (Example: DATAMANTomT) - Click on Next.
- Now the window for entering the password for the superuser versiondog will open.

server startup, a critical error will be written to the octoplant event log. You will then need to change the password the next time you log in. 1. Verify the displayed data. If everything is correct, click Next. 1. The setup will begin. A message box will indicate when the installation process is complete. 1. If the Windows Firewall service is not started on the system on which you want to install octoplant, a note about this will be displayed. To proceed with the installation process, click on Continue. 1. After successfully completing the installation, click on Finish to close the installation wizard.
