KB-133018: Requirements for software upload (from TIA Portal 13 SP1)

Requirements for software upload (from TIA Portal 13 SP1)

A software upload can either be started on the versiondog server or using a PC agent set up (physical or virtual).

The computer that is being used to start the software upload must fulfil the following requirements:

  • A licensed TIA Portal environment must be installed on this computer.
  • The Windows user must be a member of the local TIA Portal Openness group.
  • The Windows user must be a member of the local administrator group.
  • The VDog MasterService or agent needs to be started as an application (not as a service) by a user who is a Windows administrator and a member of the Openness Group.

Starting a service as an application with the command line

Note

Before either the VDog MasterService or the agents can be started as an application, you need to ensure that the VDog MasterService or the agent services (VDog UploadAgent and VDog CompareAgent) have been ended (for example, using the Task Manager). Afterwards, you will need to deactivate these services in Windows. This will ensure that after restarting the computer these services will no longer automatically be restarted.

Enter the following commands (depending on their specific application):

Command line example for the server: "C:Program Files (x86)vdogServerVDogMasterService.exe /at:s /rd:D:vdServerArchive /app /visibleCommand line example for the agents: "C:Program Files (x86)vdogAgentsVDogCompareAgent.exe" /at:s /rd:D:vdAgentArchive /app /visible"C:Program Files (x86)vdogAgentsVDogUploadAgent.exe" /at:s /rd:D:vdAgentArchive /app /visible

Note

Creating a batch file for these commands allows the services to automatically run as an application when this batch file is placed in the startup folder. Execute as administratorneeds to be set in the batch file properties.

  • The screen saver needs to be deactivated.
  • The Windows user always needs to be logged on and the screen should not be locked.

We recommend that the software upload and the comparison are carried out on a PC set up for agents.

The following applies:

  • In TIA portal, the Load most recent project during startup option needs to be deactivated.

  • The project that you wish to restore has to have been previously online on the TIA Portal device.

  • The checked in TIA project needs to fulfil the following requirements:
    • No individual CPUs may be located in the subdirectories of the TIA Portal project tree.
    • The interface must be assigned an IP address. (The Allow IP Protocol adjustment of the IP directly at the device option needs to be deactivated). Please ensure that all online settings are correct. To do this, create an online connection to the project. You can do this by going to TIA Portal editor on to the computer being used for the job (server or agent). (An extended configuration dialog should not appear).Correct means that the TIA portal can create a connection to the device. If, for example, an NAT router is between the versiondog server and CPU, the TIA Portal has to be installed on a agent that is on the same network as that of the CPU.

Warning

versiondog runs and executes the TIA Portal job automatically. Whilst the job is in progress, do not press any buttons or click on the mouse.

If all requirements have been met, you can use jobs to create backups for TIA Portal devices. If required, the devices with TIA Portal can then be restored from the backups you have created.

Note

It is currently not possible to create a backup of an HMI device.
