Gateway
Usage as CSC gateway
A gateway that is used in combination with octoplant represents a octoplant-specific software solution that provides a service on your computer. From an IT security standpoint, often only data traffic that is linked to octoplant is passed on, while other applications are filtered out of communication or blocked. Ultimately a tunnel is constructed, which often avoids a costly network extension by means of a firewall or an additional router. Unlike the agent, the CSC gateway allows you to use the client server communication, for example, Check-In and Check-Out.
Usage as gateway for network transitions
The octoplant gateway is most frequently used with network transitions. The transition to a Profibus network, which is widely used by CNC controls, is used here as an application example. In particular, we will take a closer look at the Sinumerik 840D Powerline, which does not feature any Ethernet ports and can therefore only be operated by Profibus. A gateway, however, makes it possible for the PC unit to be addressed via Ethernet and for the required data to be passed on from the Profibus network. Backups from an “older†machine generation (with no changes to its hardware and software) can now be easily produced. Depending on the configuration of the machine manufacturer, you have to find a suitable access point for octoplant or create such a point if at all possible.
