What is a job?
A job is a monitoring/ backup task that archives the live data of a device (program files, configuration, settings, etc.)
When is a job executed?
Jobs can be executed manually or automatically at any time according to a schedule specified by the user.
When is a job executed?
There are 4 ways of doing this:
- According to a schedule (automatic)
- Not according to a schedule (manual)
- Using BackupClient
- Via a URL via opc ua
This is specified during the job configuration.
Is additional software required to execute a job?
By using octoplant, you can create upload and compare jobs for a wide range of different devices.
Jobs for some devices require additional software to be installed on the server. If the required software cannot be installed on the computer running the server applications, you can allow the octoplant system to access the software using Agents. Agents need to be installed on the same computer on which the required software is installed. The computer needs to be accessible via the network. You will also need access rights to the computer, its software and folders/files.
What is the maximum number of jobs that can be run on a single octoplant server?
octoplant backs up your entire production environment and it is highly recommended to protect all your production resources with jobs to get automatic backups and compare the results.
The maximum number of jobs that can be run on a single server depends on the upload type of the job (e.g. TIA Portal, Image Service, or UNC-Upload) and the individual customer environment, i.e. network capacity and server performance. You can influence the number individually, for example by the type of devices addressed, time-based organization or the interlocking of jobs in the operating sequence.
It is possible to run several thousand jobs.
