Practical applications
Here are some potential practical applications.
Scenario 1: Upload and compare with additional software
Scenario:
You want to perform an upload or a comparison. This requires additional software, for example the appropriate development environment for the device. However, one of the following problems can occur:
- The additional software cannot be installed on the server or client.
- Different versions of the additional software are being used. The different versions cannot be installed on one PC system at the same time.
- There are certain requirements for uploading or comparing, for example SQL database server, security concepts or firewall rules.
Potential solution:
Spread the tasks across multiple systems. upload and compare agents must be installed on each system that takes over tasks from the server or client.
Scenario 2: Simultaneous upload and comparison
Scenario:
You want to upload and compare on one system at the same time. However, this is not possible for technical reasons. Only exactly one action can be performed on the system at a time. Only after one action has been completed can another one be performed.
Potential solution:
Spread the tasks across multiple systems. The use of Upload and Compare Agents allows tasks to be distributed across multiple systems. The tasks can be executed in parallel. This reduces processing times, delivers results more quickly and spreads the load over multiple systems.
Scenario 3: Accessing system resources that cannot be addressed via the network
Scenario:
You want to access system resources that cannot be addressed via the network.
For example, you want to back up an automation device that the server cannot access directly via TCP/IP. The automation device is connected to a visualization device via MPI or PROFIBUS The visualization device can, however, be accessed from the server directly via TCP/IP.
Potential solution:
You can use Upload and Compare Agents to gain access to system resources that cannot be addressed via the network. Directly install the agent on the system that has access to the resources you require. In this example, you would install the agent on the visualization panel to gain access to the automation device.
Scenario 4: Transfer to a BUSÂ system
Scenario: Transfer to a BUSÂ system (for example MPI, Profibus, Profinet, or Modbus) might not be possible on the server if, for instance, the server has no interface card.
Solution: To set up communication with the BUS system, you can install the agent on any system with the appropriate BUS interface.
Scenario 5: Online backup of HMI Runtimes
Scenario: You want to back up HMI Runtimes during operation (= online)
Solution: Use a HMI Upload and Compare Agent for the online backup. One agent is required per HMI station.
