KB-132860: Integrating existing projects

Integrating existing projects

To integrate your zenon projects, follow these steps:

  1. Create a New component in the UserClient. Select Zenon in the COPA-DATA/HMI SCADA Software directory as the component type.
  2. Select the zenon project’s DB.ini file.

Note

The DB.ini file provides the versiondog system with the information required to back up the project data (for example, the project path).

Note

In a standard installation of zenon editior, the DB.ini is saved in the pathC:ProgramDataCOPA-DATASQL

To find your zenon project’s DB.ini file:

Option A: use an editor key combination

Option B: use the GUID project

1. Start the zenon Editor.
1. In the menu, select **File -> insert existing project**.

The Project Selection dialog will open. Available projects are displayed with their project names.

1. In the dialog, select the **plus symbol** (+) located in front of the project that you want to use.

Detailed information of the project will be displayed. This includes the project ID.

1. Open the file manager.
1. On your local computer, search the folder whose name corresponds to that of the GUID.
1. Open the zenon project in the editor.
1. Mark the project in the editor’s project tree.
1. To open the file manager in the SQL folder of the project, press **CTRL+ ALT + E** (for example,`<Drive:>\SQL `<GUID>`FILES directory`) .
1. Go back a directory level to `<`GUID>````<drive:>`\SQL `<GUID>`directory`.
  1. Copy the project’s DB.INI to the clipboard.
  2. Swap over to the UserClient.
  3. Right-click on the selected zenon component and then select Edit -> Show in file manager. Alternatively: Press Ctrl+E.
  4. Copy the DB.ini into the working directory.
  5. Close the file manager and in the project tree select the arrow > located in front of the zenon component. The locally inserted DB.ini will be shown.
  6. Select the DB.ini file in the context menu, select Open with editor. Alternatively: press on key F4. The dialog Data adapter for zenon projects will then open:zenon_Data_adapter.PNGImage: Dialog Data adapter for zenon Projects, Open In editor
  7. Configure the following settings in the data adapter:
    • In the zenon editor to use, select the zenon editor version that was last used for editing the zenon project. If you do not know which zenon editor version was last used for editing the zenon project, you can find it out using the file project.ini.
    • Proceed as follows:
      1. Open the Windows Explorer.
      2. Choose Computer in the navigation pane.
      3. In the search field, enter the zenon project ID and start the search. If the search is successful, a folder whose name matches the entered project ID, will be displayed.
      4. Open the folder and find the project.ini file.
      5. Open the project.ini file in a text editor.

Note

If the zenon editor version that was last used for editing the zenon project does not exist on the computer, select the highest available zenon editor version. Note that the project may be converted once it is opened in the editor. – In zenon workspace file (*.wsp6), create a workspace file. You can select an exisiting one or create a new workspace file: 1. Create a new workspace file by directly entering an absolute path in the zenon workspace file (*.wsp6):

Note

As a new workspace does not yet contain any project data, load the project belonging to this component into the workspace using the editor. 1. Select an existing workspace file using the file selection. If the project currently selected in the data adapter is not present in the existing workspace file, it will be added. If the workspace file that you selected in the data adapter contains multiple projects, all projects in the field **Additional projects in Workspaceon the data adapter will be shown. Here you need to decide which one you want to use.

Note

  1. If you check Update zenon project database, the central zenon project database will be updated with the content of the versiondog component. Otherwise, no update will take place. This option is not relevant to the integration of an existing zenon project into versiondog.
  2. After configuring your settings, select OKin the dialog**Data adapter for zenon projects. The project will then be opened automatically in the editor. For technical reasons, this is necessary after copying the DB.ini.
  3. Close the editor again. If you have made any changes to the project, save your data before exiting.
  4. Swap over to the UserClient. Select the zenon component and select Create base version and Check-In. The zenon project has now been integrated and can be managed by versiondog.
