KB-132931: Switching between a remote and a local server archive

Switching between a remote and a local server archive

Moving data from a remote archive to a local archive

  1. End the service MasterService in Windows task manager.

  2. Change the name of the local server archive tovdServerArchiveOld.

  3. Copy the remote server archive on your local hard drive and rename it tovdServerArchiveRemote. Therefore, the two directoriesvdServerArchiveOldandvdServerArchiveRemoteare located in your local drive.
  4. Delete from thevdServerArchiveRemotedirectory all directories whose name begins with “VD$”.
  5. Then copy these directories from thevdServerArchiveOlddirectory to thevdServerArchiveRemotedirectory.
  6. Open the fileServer.iniin the..vdServerArchiveVD$AConfigurationdirectory.
  7. In theServer.inifile, go to the entry 5508= and delete the value of the key so that only the 5508= entry remains.
  8. Rename thevdServerArchiveRemotedirectory tovdServerArchive.
  9. Restart the service MasterService.

Moving data from a local archive to a remote archive

  1. End the service VMasterService in Windows task manager.

  2. Copy the local server archive to the desired location on the network drive.

  3. Open the fileServer.iniin the directory..vdServerArchiveVD$AConfiguration.
  4. In theServer.inifile, go to the entry 5508= and add the path to the new directory in the network drive as the value of the key, for example, 5508=myNASversiondogvdServerArchive.
  5. Delete from your local server archive all directories except the following: These directories contain the databases and other important data and must always be present on the server.

  6. All directories with “VD$” in the name

  7. VD_TMP_VD
  8. vdog agent setup
  9. vdog client setup

  10. Make sure that the user account used to start the MasterService service has all the necessary rights to the remote archive on the network drive.

  11. Restart the service MasterService.
