KB-133195: Installing server with existing server archive and client

Installing server with existing server archive and client

When installing a versiondog server with existing server archive and client, the versiondog server and client applications are installed and an existing server archive is included. This type of installation allows you to continue to use existing server archive data. You do not need to create a new server archive. No data will be lost.

An existing client archive can also be integrated if you want to do so.

Warning

We recommend that the installation with an existing server archive is done with the same versiondog

version with which the server archive was created.

Installation requirements:

  • The versiondog setup file is available.
  • You have a valid license file.
  • The user performing the installation or the user account through which the installation is being performed has administrator rights.
  • The drive, set to store the server archive, must allow files to run. There is a likelihood that existing antivirus software must be deactivated if they interfere with files being run.
  • If the execution of files is not allowed, an error message (SQL exception) will be displayed later when logging on to the system. Login is not possible.

To install the versiondog server with existing server archive and client, proceed as follows:

  1. Select Install server with existing server archive plus client and then click on Next.

  1. The BackupClient cannot be installed on the computer on which the versiondog server is running.
  2. Options:

  3. In the next step, you will be asked to create a backup of your server archive or to confirm that you have already created a backup of the server archive. A backup is required because a database migration is performed, during which the server archive may be damaged and data may be lost.

  4. Specify the paths to the versiondog client application and server application directories.

  5. You can enter the path manually or click on the Browse… button.

    • D:vdServerArchivevdog client setup
    • D:vdClientArchive
  3. If the server archive is stored in a remote directory, the user or user account from which the installation will be performed needs read and write permissions to the remote system.

  5. An existing client archive can also be integrated if necessary.
