KB-133269: Creating a project from a backup

Creating a project from a backup

RSLogix 5 creates its own backups and revised files. versiondog is normally configured so that these files are ignored during a comparison as well as when a new version is created. This means that these backups are not present in the files that have been versioned. If you DO NOT want these backup files to be ignored, you have the option to save a RSLogix project file as well as the backup created by RSLogix 5 when you save the changes made to a project. In order to archive RSLogix5 backups, you will need to change your RSLogix 5 component type to ensure that the _BAK???.rsp file is no longer ignored when creating versions.

Note

This change will not only be implemented in this component but also in all other components of this type.

Note

The size of your archive will quickly grow with every change made and can take up a considerable amount of space on your

server.

Changing your RSLogix 5 component type

  1. Open the AdminClient.
  2. Click on the Component type editor module.
  3. In the project tree, go to Rockwell and select the component type RSLogix5.
  4. Select the file containing _BAK???.rsp in Ignore these files. Right-click and select Delete row.rslogix5_component_type_editor.pngImage: Module Component Type Editor, save _BAK??.rsp files

Note

Alternative: When you want to add an earlier backup or version, rename the _BAK??? file in your project file.

If you change or remove the BAK part of the file name, the file will no longer be ignored and will instead be added to the version and saved by versiondog.
