Integrating projects
To integrate an existing project
- Create a new component in the UserClient. Select iFIX in the GE directory as the component type.
- Navigate to the iFIX project file in Windows Explorer.
- Copy the iFIX project from the source folder to the working directory of the component. Contrary to the standard procedure, do not create a base version.
- Select Open in editor (shortcut F4) to open the project with Proficy iFIX .
- If you have copied the project, it will opened in the editor using the old path.
- If you have moved the project, an error message will be displayed.
- Acknowledge all error messages by selecting OK.
- Because the path information is incorrect, you must close the Proficy iFIX Editor.
- Open the editor again and the correct path will be shown.
- Open the SCU in the Paths menu and select Application Path In Current Project Configuration/ Project.
- Create the project under the path

“ - Select Change Project and you will receive a notification asking if iFIX should create default files in the new project.
- Select YES and then OK.
- You will receive a message that not all folders needed for the project exist. You now have the following application options:
- Create All (This creates all necessary folders automatically.)
- Prompt (This prompts for each folder to be created.)
- None (No folder will be created).
- When the message that no alarm area database file could be found under the path of the alarm area of the database is shown, you have the following application options:
- Proceed (A new alarm area database file can be created in the set empty folder).
- Return (Return to the path settings and set another folder).
- Select Save in the File menu to save the project.
- Close the SCU.
- Now open the project with Open in Editor (F4) in the Proficy iFIX Editor.
- Create a base version and check it in on the versiondog server.
Creating a new iFIXÂ project
To create a new iFIX project, you have two options: you can either copy an existing project or create a new empty project.
To create a new project by copying an existing project
- In the Proficy iFIX editor, open the Startup menu .
- Go to File and then Save as to open the SCU.
- Set the program path and create a new folder.
- Save the file .SCU (default setting is Fix.scu).
- A message will appear asking if this file should be opened on restart.
- Select Yes.
- Go to Configure > Paths > Application Path in Current Project Configuration > Project and set the current path to the project.
- Select Change Project and you will be asked if iFIX standard files should be created in the new project.
- Select YES and then OK.
- You will receive a message that not all folders needed for the project exist. You now have the following application options:
- Create All (This creates all necessary folders automatically.)
- Prompt (This prompts for each folder to be created.)
- None (No folder will be created).
- When the message that no alarm area database file could be found under the path of the alarm area of the database is shown, you have the following application options:
- Proceed (A new alarm area database file can be created in the set empty folder).
- Return (Return to the path settings and set another folder).
- In the menu File select Save to save the project.
- Close the SCU.
- Now open the project with Open in Editor (F4) in the Proficy iFIX Editor.
- Create a base version and check it in on the versiondog server.
Your project is now created and can be edited and managed in versiondog.
To create a new, initially empty iFIX project
- Create a folder with Windows Explorer.
- In your iFIX editor, go to File > New > Configure > Paths and open then the SCU.
- In Application Path in Current Project Configuration > Project, set the path to the project.
- Select Change Project.
- You will receive a notification asking if you want iFIX standard files to be created in the new project.
- Select YES and then OK.
- You will receive a message that not all folders needed for the project exist. You now have the following application options:
- Create All (This creates all necessary folders automatically.)
- Prompt (This prompts for each folder to be created.)
- None (No folder will be created).
- When the message that no alarm area database file could be found under the path of the alarm area of the database is shown, you have the following application options:
- Proceed (A new alarm area database file can be created in the set empty folder).
- Return (Return to the path settings and set another folder).
- In the menu File select Save to save the project.
- Close the SCU.
The project is now created and can be edited and managed in versiondog.

You can customize the iFIX component type in the AdminClient, Component Type Editor module.
