KB-133467: Network technology basics

Network technology basics

This documentation looks at some of the basic network knowledge necessary for effectively implementing the versiondog system.

To safely use versiondog, we recommend that all current IT security guidelines are adhered to. As this cannot be provided by AUVESY-MDT, we would like to provide some basic suggestions. This is a security feature which meets the minimum-security requirements for versiondog.

The versiondog server should be located within a network and should be secured with state-of-the-art network protection. This includes firewalls as well as IDS and IPS systems. We recommend making firewall rules as strict as possible. For this reason, a detailed list of all available ports is provided.

As threats in IT are constantly changing, the use of anti-malware software is essential. We recommend that you also install this anti-malware software on the versiondog server as well. There are, however, some exceptions which need to be set up for the versiondog MasterService to ensure that its normal processes aren’t affected.

In addition, we recommend that each customer conduct their own security assessment and create appropriate IT guidelines.

We will of course be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Your Customer Services team.
