KB-134679: Server Maintenance – Start in maintenance mode

Use Case

IT, who is responsible for the octoplant server, wants to perform server maintenance on the octoplant server. This can be anything from updating the operating system, performing backup operations or update the octoplant software itself. It is a good idea to inform the users upfront about the non-availability of the server and there options to still have access to their PLC data.

End-to-End Process

  • IT System Administrator: Configure a new service to always start octoplant in maintenance mode

  • IT System Administrator: Restart the server during maintenance

  • IT System Administrator: Turn off maintenance mode

NOTE: Maintenance mode allows users to still check-out components, while check-in is not possible.
NOTE: in the current scenario, the IT System Administrator would need to deactivate the maintenance mode after every server restart.
